Problem with a JVC DVD player.

I recently played a movie on the player and it had some defects on it but it cleared up and we played the rest of the movie. The next day I went to play another movie and it came back "NO DISC". I tested it again with on of my granddaughters movies and it played OK. It seems like it has something to do with the parental controls but the controls are set to NONE. I am at a loss as to what went wrong except the player failed and it is time to get a new one. Any thoughts or ideas.? Thanks for any help you can give me.
