how to record from videorecorder to jvc camcoder

Hi, I tried to record something from vcr to my jvc camcoder (grd230e)and I failed. I followed all steps in manual for conecting that two devices, but I can not get any signal(picture) from vcr. When I connect my Mini Dv to Tv, video is reproduced on Tv but not vise versa. Sorry for my English, hope you understand what is my problem. Please help!
