I have this exact same problem with my JVC GR-D30. The LCD works fine when I play back a tape, but when I try to record I get nothing but blackness in both the LCD and the viewfinder. It's as if the camera has gone blind. I've tried mucking with the settings but nothing helps. Is this camera done for? Colin

Is playback Ok when viewed on the viewfinder or LCD? If the answer is yes then the iris on your lens may not be opening properly.

I think your camcorder's CCD needs replacement. Regards, Davy
