lense feedback

Hello everyone, I recently opened up my ps2 to fix the "error disc" problem. I noticed that the laser's beam was really weak, I experimented with it for a while till the beam was not there anymore. I tried everything to reenergize the beam back but to no success. I just wanted some feedback. I am wondering if I should just buy a new lens.
