Some manufacturers recommend using alcohol to clean the laser lens. I use a
Q-tip moistened with glass cleaner and follow up with a Q-tip moistened with pure water as a rinse. Finally I use fresh dry Q-tips to complete the cleaning process. Do be careful. Don't rub too hard. The laser is supported by tiny focus and tracking coils. In most cases a cleaning will not solve the disc error and the laser pickup assy will require replacement. But, it's worth a try. Just remember not to soak the Q-tips, just moisten them.
