GR-DVM70, GR-DVM70U, Fading Image

My GR-DVM70U develops a weird problem recently: I can't use it outdoors or indoors with bright light. The image will fade (like what you see when you blink 3 times a second). Looks like it tries to avoid the light. And the playback shows the same thing. This will happen with either the LCD or the viewfinder. This fading will occur in both manual and auto setting, whether actually recording or just looking. With low light like indoor without pointing to any light directly, records fine and playback is fine with no fading. What the heck is wrong? Is this a hardware or setting issue?
