my ps2 makes a loud clicking sound whenever i use it and it freezes whenever it wants to. it won't play any of my games, what can i do.

My ps2 makes a loud clicking sound whenever i try and play any of my games. it takes very long for it to load games and freezes about 5 or 10 minutes after its been on. I've played the game for long amounts of time and i have used both DVD's and CD's on my ps2. can the DVD's and CD's be a problem, please help.
