I pulled out the eject ribbon cable and am trying to put it back in.

Hi I pulled out the damn eject ribbon cable and am having trouble putting it back in. I was successfull enough to find that stupid white piece by taking the bottom off as well, however I am having alot of problems getting the cable to go in. I noticed there is a brown clip attached to it and i can put the ribbon in the white slot and clip it down with the brown piece. However I can't seem to get the ribbon very far in before clipping it in, is this ok? How far in does it have to go? Also your ps2 won't turn on at all if the ribbon isn't plugged in right? Just making sure I don't have more serious problems. Any and all help is greatly appreciated
