Need a hardwire remote pause for dx97 camcorder

Is it possible to have a remote pause for this camera? I will be using a helmetcam, with the camera remotely located, so a way to switch the recording on and off would be very useful. Is this possible via the AV port? The manual is unclear (to me!)
