Won't record sound or play it back

I have a Sony Handycam 8MM CCD-TR93 that will not play sounds or record them. I recorded a tape on it and put it in another 8MM Sony Camera and the sounds will not come out on it. I have tried menu functions but nothing seems to work. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Pete Butcher
