Hi, thanks for response - I have since found that all I needed to do was either upgrade the soundcard , or use an ordinary 3.5mm male to male jack, or the option I chose- buy a USB Sound Box for £17 which connects through a USB port, and has an analogue and optical output. Hurrah! sorted!
