I have a JVC GR-D72US that is 5 months old and has been used less than 1 hour. Last week I used it in an indoor low-ambient sound setting for the first time and when I played back the recording noticed a loud annoying ticking sound. I replayed earlier recordings of an outdoor sporting event and determined that the sound was also present but masked by the loud ambient noise.
I tried a new tape of the same brand and a new tape of a different brand (both high end tapes) and the sound remains. The sound can be heard , although not as loud, when the camera is recording, however, it apparently gets picked up by the mic and amplified.
I did some research on th Internet and found some reports of excessive motor noise for this model. In most cases the cameras were returned and/or replaced. Unfortunately mine is too old (a whole 5 months) and, therefore, out of labor warranty. I spoke with JVC and they directed me to my local authorized service center. I spoke with the service center and was told to leave the camera and a $68.00 and they would get to it in about 3 weeks.
Frankly, I was not very impressed with the local service operation and have little confidence in their ability to repair the camera for less than several hundred dollars.
Any suggestions?
Greg
