Vintage Nutone Intercom/Security system

Jesse Hurwitz Posted Nov 22, 2004

Need help with Vintage Nutone systems!

I just purchased a new home that what appears to be an intricate Nutone system installed. There is a Nutone Musicom SM 428 installed in the kitchen with many units and speakers all across the house. Connected to the system is also a doorbell system with i believe an electric chime and intercom unit outside. The intercom system turns on, but i cant get it to do much else besides squeel. I still have to test it some more. There is also a nutone alarm system in the house with a base unit in the master bedroom closet. This system was unwired and replaced with a different brands newer system. But the old system still has kepads, sensor and the base unit in place. I own the useless manual for the Intercom system, but no other literature. If anybody has any information on these products please contact me.

Hello we also moved into an early 80's home with intercom bases in nearly every room and the master in the kitchen and a secondary in the master bedroom. Our unit has a 8 track player! We can't find the manual for the Nutone Musicom SM 428. Would like to read it or look at to solve a few issues. If you have access or are intereted in sharing it please let us know. Thank you.

I also have this same system through out my house. I'm missing a couple of the speakers and have only holes in my walls with the mounting plates. Where can I get them or what can I use that will fit?

I found that the speakers in our garage and playroom, in the basement, were mounted into the same wall, from different sides, but were pretty close to each other. Every time we tried to use one of them, there was a feedback squeal. The only solution we could come up with was to turn off the one in the garage and that eliminated the feedback. Could that be causing your problem?
