Same problem on the GR-DVL505 model. I tapped the sides (all of them) and I was able to get it out of Safeguard mode. Then, for the first time, the unit said head cleaning required. I've only recorded about 12 hours of tape since I got the camera a couple of years ago.

It also work for us. We laughed our as off!!!!!!!!!

Dif you get any answers regarding the Error on your JVC - I got the same problem and it seens very hard to get answers ..
