water damage to a sony projection screen KP-51HW40

Paul Posted Nov 08, 2004

water damage six inches up on bottom of unit. unit no longer will power up.

I had alot of rain water come into the basement and it submergered the bottom of the unit in about 6 inches of water. The unit will not power up but the stereo indicator light will come on. I was told that the crcuit boards may need replaced?? or could it just be a power supply issue? and where can these parts be obtained at reasonable prices? The unit is only 3 yeras old and I would prefer to fix the unit and not replace it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Sounds like you will need aa new TV. What are you doing with the old one? I need a green gun from one of these. If the circuitboard on the guns didn'y get wet I'd like to make an offer on buying the guns. Depending where you are. I'm in the US.

Yep, it's dead. The circut boards are very sensitive to water. I had cleaned the outer surface of the top of the set with windex and a drop of the stuff found its way to the board and fried the main circut with rust. Poor circut protection. So now I have one for parts. R
