our dvd player seems to make our tv flicker and skips and pauses brand new dvds at random

our dvd player randomly pauses/skips/wont play new dvds. have had this problem for about 6 months now. seems random--most of our dvds are scratch free and clean. we have tried cleaning the inside Lens with a dvd player cleaning kit... stopping and restarting, ffwarding nothing works-- any help you could offer/explanation as to why this is happening would be appreciated. thank you.
