I am from Egypt, I bought my dvl 300 from Japan in 2000, but I rarely used it until this year when after couple of days of use, it stopped and gave me the famous message "E04 Remove and reattach battery. Unit in safeguard mode.", I took it to the terrible local service agent, they charged me around 80 US$ and it stayed with them for two weeks and worked only for two days and then the same message appeared. I took it again to the agent and it stayed there since then (May 04), they are claiming that the “drum” needs to be changed and because they don’t have it in stock they made an order to import it from Japan, and I am still waiting since last May for the part to arrive!! Passing through this terrible experience, I decided to purchase Sony video cam although price is higher the quality and service is much better.
