problem keeping 16:9 aspect ratio when exporting to tape or dvd

i use adobe premiere software, preferring to film in 16:9 aspect ratio. looks great on computer. however when exporting back to my dv camera for playing on tv, the image is 'restretched'.same thing with dvd burn, which i am presently using ulead dvd moviefactory3 for. what do i need, and how do i get it? very little dv video knowledge in my neck of the woods.
