No image on the screen or the viewfinder and a flashing "lens cap" message at power up. It records audio but no video. Playback of a previously recorded tape works fine. If anyone has the answer please advize.

rant #2 I am having the same problem with a JVC digital camcorder, model#: GR-D30U. It plays tapes and but does not show me a picture in record(camera mode). I have tired to see if it records audio(only). If it does, that would indicate to me that the video chip is fried(broken, out for the count). I think it was left on for an extended period of time and the video chip can not handle the heat generated by the camercorder being on(bad cooling or none at all in the design). I briefly looked through the manual and it doesn't seem to say anything about leaving the camera on for an extended time. I will double check that warning, to see if it is written. If not JVC sounds like they need to apologize and get $$ back or repair(with warning) to consumer/purchasers of these products. I also have a Samsung digital camcorder, model#: SCD23, that is showing the same symptoms. yeah for me, broken, cheap technology, that cost alot(at least a little lot). I am planning to go to a repair soon with these two camcorders to see what they say about their problems. I wish I could get a parts/service manual. I'm technically handy and would be possibly able to put a new video chip in myself, if I had the manuals. Opening a camcorder like this without tech. specs. can be pretty hopeless and having the repair shop do it is probably not worth the cost of a new camcorder. sooo... luck to us all let me know if anything develops with this issue. JK I also have the same symptoms with my JVC GR-SXM250U camcorder. I've had it for a year. No image on monitor or view finder. displays same (lens cap )message when powering up, records only audio, and playback of a previous recorded tape works fine. If anyone has the answer please advise. |
