I need a cheap device for reading/writing to a Mini DV tape from my computer via firewire. A broken DV camera would be a suitable possiblity.

I have infrequent access to a high quality Mini DV camera, but require frequent access to the data on the tapes. As I have little money I am hunting for a broken camera that would allow me to perform the I/O functions with my computer via Firewire. The ability to actually film something is unnecessary, so the lens can be broken or whatever.
