Escher, Excellent!!!!! I got the same error and I had to hold mine at funny angles to get it to read/write. I followed your instructions and got to the "spur gear". It was still making contact, but I bent it in more and when I re-inserted the worm gear, it was a much more snug fit. I reassembled the camera (you weren't kidding about the time - 2 hours) and it works like new! Thanks again for your post! and add me to your list of who you saved 200 bucks! Rob
