error floppy

the camera is a FD100 mavica floppy camera.I keep getting error 38:01 disk or floppy error. I called sony and they want 175.00 busks. she said this error is a malfuntion error. just wanted to know if anyone has had this problem and it you were able to fix it yourselves. and if you were how. also if you have this problem can you still use the memory card for pictures taking.thanks
