Memory Stick format error

We took photos on sony dsc p92 cybershot cameras using 128 mb memory stick. We have more than 60 photos of our kid on it. Now we get the message format error on the lcd and we are not able to recover the photos. The images are there on the stick but we are not able to copy them to our computer using usb cable. Kindly mail if u have a solution on how i can retrieve the images and solve this error from recurring. thanks
