FM does not seem to work

OK, here's the problem in a nutshell: I just bought a home that was built in 1974. I replaced an AM-only Nutone 2065-A with a MHA-16 -- but now the FM just does not seem to work. I get a pop when I swith the dial from AM to FM but no stations come in -- not even the local one whose transmitter is only a couple of miles away. Any suggestions?
