The XL2 will arrive early next year. it will still be miniDV but with new compression codecs that will produce better image quality. It will have the LCD screen on it and XLR inputs. Canon thought about going to HDV (HD encoded mpg2 on miniDV tape) like the new JVC cam but finally decided to develop the new dv-codecs. They will also provide real progressive scan with improved CCDs.
Now where do I know this from? Don´t ask me...

Just came from a conference with a quick peek at a proto-type XL2....it is AWESOME...Yes, it will shoot 24p. Announcement will be made July 14, 2004 (Flag Day). Wow, what a long wait, but now it's just around the corner. Release date in September 2004.
