Repair possibility?

I have a 25-inch Sony Trinitron TV purchased around 1977. Video and other features still fine, but the audio suddenly quit completely. I was told that the audio chip failed and that the shop couldn't replace it (they wanted me to spend $3000 on a new TV). Any chance this part is available, whether unused or cannibalized from another set?
