Sony Trinitron Model # KV 35S36

Jill Sabo Posted May 11, 2004

Dead TV

I purchased the above mentioned Sony Trinitron in January 2001. I spent a lot of money. My son called me at work last Saturday morning to tell me the screen all of a sudden went 'blue'. I called a repair man (there is no way I can lift this by myself) to come to the house. He tested it and told me Sony had a problem with the power supply. It all of a sudden gets a surge, overheats and dies. Furthermore he informed me that it is now 'junk'. Is this true? Is there nothing that can be done or will Sony help out in any way? If not, I will NEVER purchase another Sony product. Jill

I had the same problem with mine, except mine went red then just turned off and wouldn't turn on. What happened to my sony was the red gun inside the tube "carboned up" according to a TV tech. He hooked up a machine to blast the guns and the inside of the picture tube for $150. It lasted about 1.5 months and now the picture is pink again. The tech I dealt with also said there was a 50/50 chance that this would work and that the TV was junk if it didn't work! I'm not happy after spending $1300 5 years ago for this TV. I was also told this was a common problem with Sony TVs made in Mexico. Although when I contacted sony it seemed that I was the only one with this problem, got the run around, what else is new with big corporations!!!
