Request for advice in combatting extreme cold with video camera

My son is cameraman to a team of Gurkhas crossing Greenland. Temperatures -37C. His two Sony cameras keep giving the message "C21" followed by a rectangle with a water drop in it, with an instruction to eject the cassette. He has asked me to find advice! No question of getting more equipment, just advice! He rings with a diary update, but I only have a short time to relay message. (www.gurkhaextreme.org) Many thanks.
