Canon xl1 eject problem

I'm having trouble with the eject mechanism. sometimes i just cant seem to get the mechanism to disengage. sometime opening and closing the tape door will seem to sort the problem out, sometimes not, sometimes leaving it for 10 minutes will sort it out as well. Very frustrating... can someone tell me where the 'eject' switch actually is... or better still how the 'emergency eject' is performed. Thanks in advance... Richard D.
