sony dcr trv350 audio gain

audio distortion question

I have a helmet cam/mic(both powered) connected via the A/V port on my Sony DCR TRV350 digital camcorder. The video is great, but the audio is distorted....almost like it can't handle the volumn from the lapel mic. I've tried all the menu settings I could think of to combat this distortion. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! And sorry if this issue has been posted already. *I'm trying to use this for capturing some of my motorcycle travels. Fairly loud v-twin Italian bike.

I would sugest you get to a amateur radio operator and ask him if he can build you a diferential amplifier. You'll need tw microphones and subtract the engine and wind noise from your voice (+ engine + wind). That thing needs to be calibrated but should work fine when you get the hang of it. They do similar things in the aviation communications. Good luck
