Difficulty filming

The camera has worked fine until the past week or so. It is used in an elementary school. It will come on and be ready to film and then will go black. You can still push record and pause and they seem to function. The problem appears to happen outside. I have recharged battery, re-wound tape, checked battery connection, combed the manaual for assitance, etc. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
