Shure SM57 VS Azden SM-X
Usually we deal in animation, but we are doing a low budget outdoor shoot (on water mostly) that is mixing DV footage and adding an animated component later.
Here's the dilemma: Go out an buy an Azden SM-X for 130 bucks, so it can go right into a 1/8 inch camera jack, or try and use our studio SM-57 and get adapters to take it to camera.
I'll be using a homemade boom pole and I've been warned by a Location Sound employee that even an 8 foot length of mini cable (1/8") will screw up the sound. Of course they want to sell me a 600 dollar Sennheiser rig.
