Always "Err" code when pressing "prog/menu" button??????

My VCR gives always "Err" on the display when i press the "prog/menu" button on the remote. The set plays and records, but i can't get into the menu to programm the VCR (for ex. clock, timer recordings, tuning stations). Can I reset the memory? Can i get into a service mode? Or???? I'm also looking to dawnload the "users manuel" from the internet, where can i find it?
