Walkman plans for the blind

Does anyone know how to modify a Sony Pressman or other walkman type cassette recorder to play National Library Service tapes for the blind? I think they change from a 2-track player to a 4-track player and add variable playback speed functionality. And where I might find the components/plans to do this? Thanks.
