radio works, cd doesn't

I have a sony CDX-CA650X Head unit and I have it all wired up fine and the radio works great and the sound is awesome, but everytime I go to switch the source from Radio to CD the crazy thing says, "CD Reset". I've reset it and it still won't work. Can you tell me what might be wrong and would I just be able to order the cd unit that's inside the head unit? It just pulls out and fits back on a row of pins.
