Broken sony cdx M600 car stereo

My brother bought a broken sony cdx M600 off of ebay and I took it apart to see if I could figure out what was broken. I took out the cd drive and saw some smoke marks under it on the frame. I then looke at a part(its a black rectangle with 6 to 8 prongs coming off of it that is soldered to the board) it also touches the heatsink with some white stuff in-between the heat sink and the part. The part has a hole in the middle and you can see the smoke marks on it also. First what is this part called? Second can I order a spare from somewhere and solder it on myself? I have soldered chips to mother boards in playstation's before and at first look doesnt look to difficult.
