Help! Product won't work!

I recently purchased a Sony str-av650 stereo receiver and when I hooked it all up there is a message flashing "PROTECTER." All lights light up. Everything seeems to be turned on. Seems to be locked up. Does anyone know why this is flashing and how it can be turned off so the receiver will work?
