Requirew information for audio school in Melbourne regarding explanation of 'de-EMP' in digital consoles

An audio trainer at the school here is trying to find a technical definition/explanation of 'de-EMP' in regard to digital consoles. In the circuit diagram of a digital radio console manual he was using for reference the 'de-EMP' was after the digital i/o and the AES/EBU path. WE are chasing a technical expalantion of this concept. Please email me if you can help.
